Signing up for the SCARA E-mail Reflector
The SCARA email reflector is on line and ready to accept sign-ups. You may want to print this message out to refer to when subscribing. To sign up, please go to the following web page. Sometimes this page is slow to load, so be patient.
Enter in your email address exactly. The list will only accept email from you if it knows it is you. It knows you by checking your "Return" email address in the header of the message. (This is set by you when you set up your email program in your computer.) Make sure they are the same.
Example: You can't be subscribed with you home email and send to the list from your work email. It doesn't know your work email address. If you want to send from your work email, then you will have to subscribe using your work email. If you want to subscribe from a second email, that's OK, but you will receive all emails from the list to both email addresses. It is usually best to use only one email address.
Also, please enter your Name and/or Ham Call in the "Your Name" box. This will help the moderator resolve problems with the list if anything crops up. Besides, almost all subscribers will be local and we all know each other - so there's no need for secrecy.
Chose a password that you will remember. This is necessary. Enter it twice where indicated.
If you want only one email per day, with all the emails from that day included - then choose Batched:
"Would you like to receive list mail batched in a daily digest? No Yes"
Choosing the default no, means you will receive emails one at a time, shortly after they are sent. Batched email is only sent out once a day, usually during the night. Batched is usually only good if there are hundreds of subscribers to the list.
Remember this: When you reply to a message from the list, it goes out to all members on the list, not to just the one member. (If you want to reply to only that one member, then remember to strip the
"<mailto:[email protected]>[email protected] " out of the "TO" box, and replace it with the email address you want it to go to. The idea of the list is to share information with ALL, this is why the reply is set to go to "ALL".
After you subscribe, you will get a confirmation email with the
following first line:
"Mailing list subscription confirmation notice for mailing list SCARA"
You must reply to this in the following manner:
Look for the line "Or visit this web page:" and click on the link. When the web page opens - click on the button that says:
"Subscribe to the list SCARA". This confirmation keeps someone from subscribing all their friends. The new member must confirm by clicking, or by replying the email.
After you are subscribed you can send to the list with the following address:
The list does not like fancy HTML email or attached files. If you want to send out a photo to the list - then in your message show where it is on your web page (the URL) so it can be viewed there. The reflector will not send it out and may refuse all of your message.
Last, If you are having trouble, contact the moderator for help.
To unsubscribe to the list (unlikely) all you need to do is to visit the web page for signing up and at the bottom is a place to unsubscribe.
If you change your email address, you need to subscribe with the new email address, then unsubscribe the old email address. This will keep our list up to date.
Last: encourage your friends to subscribe. This list is a great way to ask for help, let everyone know there is a rare DX station on, or to announce something for sale. (Please don't list Ebay items, or forward ebay items to this list.)
In the unlikely event that someone abuses the peace and harmony of the list, they will be first asked to refrain from doing so, and removed if necessary.
